Brian Thacker: Couch surfing
Brian is Australian, travel writer, has probably already published several books (I'm not checking now) and has set out to make a world tour and spend the night only to "foreign" sofas.
Couchsurfing is a global Internet community, be submitted to the private sleeping spaces. After registration on the website (free) one describe himself, his "bed" and the needs / requirements of the guest / home sleeper. Will you stay

If I had not Wohnmobl, I would certainly try. For the (ahem) younger ones among us or that reisewütigen adolescents that's a good opportunity to ease their homesickness.

Brian travels from Australia to Chile, Brazil, USA, Canada,
Iceland, Belgium and Luxembourg, Turkey, Kenya, South Africa, India and the Philippines. Alcohol plays a more important role on this trip, but that is surely all controlled by the selection of his "couch." He felt the need for the "true" domestic life - well ;-) No outstanding literary work, but an entertaining travelogue, which can be read well then another.
